This interactive session will focus on using action research and action learning for organizational learning and sustainable talent development. Victoria Marsick and Lyle Yorks will discuss how to translate theory into practice and provide examples of how action research and action learning have been used successfully to facilitate change at the organizational, group, and individual levels.

This session aligns with the ASTD Competency Model, specifically around "Facilitating Organizational Change."

Victoria J. Marsick is Professor of Adult & Organizational Learning, Department of Organization and Leadership, Columbia University, Teachers College. She coordinates graduate programs in Adult Learning & Leadership. She holds a Ph.D. in Adult Education from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.P.A. in International Public Administration from Syracuse University. Prior to joining Teachers College, she was a Training Director at the United Nations Children’s Fund, a field office representative for World Education in Southeast Asia, and an independent adult education consultant.
Dr. Marsick also co-directs the J.M. Huber Institute for Learning in Organization at Teachers College with Martha Gephart. The Huber Institute (http://www.jmhuberinstitute.org) is a research-based institute dedicated to advancing the state of knowledge and practice for learning and change in organizations.

Lyle Yorks
is Associate Professor in the Department of Organization and Leadership, Teachers College, Columbia University where he teaches courses in adult learning, strategy development as an organization learning process, strategic human resource development, and research. He is also a lecturer in the Executive Master of Science Program in Technology Management, School of Continuing Education, Columbia University where he teaches a course in Strategic Advocacy. Lyle has over 30 years of experience working with organizations in diverse industries worldwide on projects involving action research, action learning, strategic organizational change, and management development.
